About Bodhgaya.

Bodhgaya “The City of Enlightenment” is situated on the west of the Phalgu river in southwestern Bihar. 

It is one of the most important and sacred Buddhist pilgrimage center in the world. It was here under a banyan tree, the Bodhi tree, Gautama attained supreme enlightenment, or “great awakening” to became the Lord Buddha. The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha was built by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century B.C., and the present temple dates from the 5th or 6th centuries.

It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples built entirely in brick, still standing in India, from the late Gupta period. Apart from the Mahabodhi Temple there are several other places to visit are statue of Lord Buddha, Thai Monastery, Tibetan Refugee Market, Royal Bhutan Monastery, Muchalinda Lake, Brahmayoni Temple, Chinese Temple, Indosan Nippon Japanese Temple, Vishnupad Temple, Vietnamese Temple, Dungeswari Hills, Burmese Vihara Monastery, Sujata Temple and Bodhgaya Museum.
